Sometimes it’s hard to commit to certain styles and you just can’t decide whether you want a more traditional space or something a little more modern.  Of course, the architectural and design features of your home may reflect a particular style that you want to complement with your décor choices.  With transitional throw pillows you can rest assured that your décor will not compete or clash with your home’s style.

Transitional style floats somewhere between traditional and modern – hence the term transitional.  It carries with it a little something of the vintage world while at the same time embracing modern aesthetics and functionality.  Many transitional pillows take classic design motifs and infuse them with life through some modern design twists, particularly through the use of color.  Bright, energizing colors can take more traditional patterns like damask, paisley, and chevron and turn them into something that feels a little closer to contemporary design.

Using multiple traditional indoor patterned pillows is a great way to pull these patterns into the realm of transitional design, as it feels more playful and daring.  Working with bronze and grey tones in such a pillow is also a great way to break away from colors that might feel completely traditional.  Grey in particular is considered a very modern color to use in interior design, so pairing it with more traditional patterns really helps create a balanced middle ground.

To scale things back, consider transitional pillows that feature only one pattern but incorporate both sharp lines and soft curves.  This can be achieved by the shape of the pillow and the designs used across its surface.  For example, a pillow with a shape featuring very sharp, straight lines but a print design that features a lot of flowing curves will strike a nice middle ground for a quality transitional look.
